Evaluations...

I have been genuinely gladdened by the generosity shown by all the people who have been asked to look at my project. Thay have all taken the time to respond to my (rather hastily thrown together) questionaire at a time when many of them will be busily finalising course work and studying for important exams of their own.
Huge Thank You's to Amy, Chelsea, Chloe-Marie, Claire, Jack, Jenni, Jess and Todd.

Oh, and a big Thank You and a hug to my very own daughter, Bethany. She has completed one and has promised to take some to school tomorrow!

PS. If any of those named above also want a hug, then I send one to you via the wonders of
the "t'internet". BIG HUG.

Scuppered...

Bethany,my daughter, has refused to take the questionaire to school - it seems it is not cool.
I have asked Chloe, a neighbours daughter (she is the age required for the target group - the daughter not the mother!) to show it to her friends. Thankfully she has agreed.

The images...

I took myself along to Undercliffe Cemetery in Bradford to photograph the graves and tombstones in this Victorian burial ground. The images that I then decided to use were put through Photoshop to create the effects I required.

Which text version did I use...?

I forgot to mention that I chose to use the "Good Word" version of The Bible. I felt this version had a clear and concise interpretation of the text that would appeal to my target group.

I had been keen to use the King James version as it is a very traditional text, however, despite my liking for this version, it would be at odds with my design brief.

Well, nearly "Finito!"...I need to evaluate the project.

I handed all my work in to Patrick this evening. All seemed well and we thought I had covered everything.

Well until Patrick emailed me to advise that I had not included an evaluation of my project form the target group/audience. Bugger! So, I have compiled a questionnaire for my daughter to ask her friends to complete.

Finito!...

Well, we returned late on Friday night from a weeks holiday in the English lake district. Beautiful weather and very relaxing...but, I had to spend a large amount of time in the evenings in finalising both this project and the Personal Project (about my Artisan fascias).

A load of Pollocks...?

Patrick gave me this URL to check out. The artist has done some interesting (disturbing) interpretations of Biblical imagery.

Have only just looked at it and browsed some of the illustrations - maybe 10-20 mins tops - and I do not know what to make of them yet.

Brainstorming...The Results...

Random Word - Glory

Random Word - Sock

Random Word - Maximum

Random Word - Transformation

Brainstorming...

Jo and I used two different techniques to determine which Bible book I will base my design on.

1. Brainstorming:

2. Random word:
"These tools will generate random words, sentences, or paragraphs. You may want to use the generators to help you in your own approach to brainstorming. You can also use the sentence and paragraph generators if your tastes in comedy lean toward the absurd."
http://watchout4snakes.com/creativitytools/RandomWord/RandomWord.aspx

Jo and I were astounded when our first "Random Word" that was generated came up as......GLORY!!!!

How spooky is that , given my subject matter - The Bible???????

(As a further weird coincidence - perhaps prompted by some higher being? - we spotted that the "Random Word" URL contains the word "snake" - our choice of Bible book was earlier made as Revelation which contains references to serpents. Jo and I are a little scared.)

We tried several more "Random Words" and were given the following:

Sock
Maximum
Transformation
and finally....Trinity (yet more spookiness.)

Has Kramer left the building..?

Tonight, I told Patrick that I had given thought to leaving the course altogether.
I thought I would be able to study for the degree whilst running my business but, due to the way things have gone recently, this has proved difficult. Am I able to give the time and energy required to make a success of the course? And still give my best efforts to my clients?

My clients demand the best I have to offer. Also, I demand the same of myself. I do not want to fail either.

What progress..?

A month down the line and I am, to a degree, somewhat stumped.
I do not want to belabour the point but, due to my recent work load and the pressures this has brought, I have done absolutely no work on the module.

Well, that is, apart from visiting my local church, St. Martins in Brighouse, to speak to Father Michael about my ideas for the project; and also paying a visit to a Christian book shop in Bradford to check out the types of material available; and also trawling through the interweb to source some research information. But, despite those things, I have no "research" to present to the class.

Research...

The research begins:

(Divine) inspiration...

I spoke with Patrick about my two ideas for the Creative Graphic Design module.

Idea number 1 -  "Peruviania", was suggested last week by Louise and Joanna - the idea came from a word I had made up during the evening and expanded into a country populated by shabby, peasant like beings and ruled over by a deity. This idea was quickly discarded!

Idea number 2 - to design an identity for my neighbour, Matt, and his music duo. This would involve designing an ID or logo and incorporating this into various types of promotional items. I was worried that this would be too similar to much of my work done in my business. Patrick agreed with me and I will not be doing this.

In discussing possible themes with Patrick and Co., he suggested I base the module on The Bible. Quite a large area to tackle there!

Despite the initial shock at the scope of the suggestion - not at the suggestion itself - this could be a valuable idea.

Our new assignment...

has to be something completely creative and of our own choice.

I am, up to press, devoid of inspiration.

"Peruviania" - don't ask - was a contender.
